Description:
The Sony PEG S300 Handheld Will Not HotSync.
Solution:
1. Check the computer's system tray to make sure the HotSync Manager is running. If it is not,
open HotSync Manager from the Programs menu.
A. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Sony Handheld and click HotSync Manager.
2. Make sure the Sony handheld cradle is connected securely to the computer. If the cradle is
connected through a USB hub, connect the cradle directly to the computer bypassing the hub.
NOTE: The Palm Desktop for Sony software must be installed before the USB cable is connected.
3. Make sure the Sony handheld is seated in the cradle correctly.
4. Uninstall the Palm software from the computer using Add/Remove programs.
A. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
B. At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
C. From the list of programs, choose Palm Desktop.
D. Click the Add/Remove button. The program's uninstall wizard will begin.
E. At the "Confirm File Deletion" screen, click Yes.
F. Click Yes to return to the Control Panel.
5. Reinstall The Palm Desktop for Sony software.
A. Insert the installation CD into the CDROM Drive.
B. At the installation screen, click "Install Palm Desktop for Sony".
C. At the Welcome screen, click Next.
D. At the Software License Agreement screen, click Yes.
E. At Setup Type screen click to select Typical and click Next.
F. If necessary perform mail setup.
G. Click Finish.
NOTE: The Palm Desktop for Sony software must be installed before the USB cable is connected.
6. Perform a Hard Reset.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All records stored on your Sony handheld are deleted by a hard reset.
A. Remove the stylus pin by unscrewing the upper part of the stylus.
B. Press and hold down the power button.
C. Use the stylus pin to press the reset button on the back of the handheld.
NOTE: The reset button is located below the letter Y in the Sony logo.
D. The Palm Computing Platform screen appears.
E. Release the power button. The message on the screen indicates that all records stored in the
Sony handheld are deleted.
E. Push the upper part of the scroll button in the front panel. The handheld is reset.
* In some cases, the Sony handheld can be set for a USB connection to transfer data in the event
the data has not been saved to a computer prior to performing a Hard Reset.
