here is the system:
1 router (Linksys)
3 PCs
and I have access to the router

anyone know how to setup the router in order to block the msn?

is this ganna work?

Linksys router does not work as a "firewall" so a work-around to block it is to forward all traffic to YOUR computer or an invalid IP (so the packets will be dropped), so other users can not use MSN.

It's not so easy to block MSN messanger as it sound, because it uses different ways to communicate, but try the ports I listed below:

TCP 6891 - 6900 (File send)
TCP 1863
UDP 1863
UDP 5190
UDP 6901 (voice communications)
TCP 6901 (voice communications)

MSN Messenger
MSN Messenger 207.46.104.20 / 255.255.255.0
MSN 使用TCP Source Port:0-65535
Destination Port:1863


unfortunately, it doesn't suit for MSN Web Messenger

What u did in the picture is letting MSN through for the comp 192.168.1.102.
If your want to block MSN, none of above setting should be appearing in your router.
As well as disable UPnP forwarding support in your router, otherwise the router will automaticly let MSN thorugh. In your router's firewall setction, there should be a section called WAN & LAN Filter, this allows you to enter a specific IP and port ranges that your want no one to enter.


Blocking MSN Web Messenger?? Try to setup a proxy server and block MSN Web Messenger's address in the proxy server so no one is allowed to go on that site.
Or maybe in your router, there is a function called URL Filter. URL Filter allows you to block specific URL access from your local network. So you can block any site to everyone in your network.

I try to deny any tcp and udp ports to access "207.46.110.252".
It's sucessfull to block user to access MSN Web Messenger through my router.

try it!

如果妳擋住的是 router 的 destionation ip
就算妳透過 proxy (在內部) 也是沒用
但是 ...... 如果你透過外面的 proxy 應該就沒用了
另外如果你透過 https tunnel 再連過去 ~~ 例如 ccproxy 之類的, 那就真擋不住

SP2好像可以把MSN的UPnP擋掉吧...

i also found...if i block 443 (SSL), the user cant sign in MSN account at all..^_^

Not necessarily, "you put int the right ports" does not equal to "you have the right  setting".
